Kenji Mori is one of the last practitioners in Higashiyama working entirely within the traditional method — his own clay, his own kiln, his own firing schedule. He does not produce for the tourist market and he does not teach commercially. What he makes is genuinely rare. I have been watching his ash glaze work develop for three years and it is unlike anything else being produced in Kyoto right now.
